Summer has officially ended. Dill my future husband has gone back home to his mother and newly step father, and I'm starting the beginning journey of the first grade. I woke up this morning feeling like a brand new person. Calpurnia, our maid, made me my first day of school breakfast, but I didn't have time to finish, Jem had me rush out the door, so we would not be late. When we first arrived to the school ground I was surprised by what Jem had told me. He said that I have to stay with the first graders and not to bother him, like I would do such a thing. My first grade teacher, Miss. Caroline is not from around here. She looked really foreign, dressed like a peppermint, red and white from head to toe. I just wanted to pop her into my mouth. As we started to do our first lesson Miss. Caroline wanted us to practice our reading, but I already knew how to and she told me that I need to stop reading at home because Atticus was teaching me wrong. But how could that be I have been reading since I was 3. But that's not all as lunch came around my day had went from the top of the hill to the bottom. Miss Caroline is completely oblivious of how things work around here in Maycomb. I mean, doesn't everyone know that the Cunninghams don't accept anything that they can't pay back. It should not be my fault why I got in trouble; I was just trying to help Miss. Caroline so she doesn't get embarrassed. I was going to teach that Walter Cunningham a lesson; not to get me into trouble when I was helping him out. But I guess I was the one who learnt the lesson, not to fight people physically when they do something to me that I dislike.
Walter came over for dinner tonight and he acted so weird. At dinner, he poured maple syrup all over his food and when I questioned him what he was doing; Calpurnia pulled me into the kitchen and told me that it was not polite to do that to your guests. Everything that I do, I get into trouble...
